Since gaining prominence in the 1960s with polymeric composites, these materials have become essential in engineering fields, offering solutions in bridge construction, automotive, sporting goods, and aerospace, among others. The rising interest in composites is driven by the need for lightweight, high-strength components that can outperform traditional materials like steel and aluminum, potentially reducing component weight by 60 to 80% when replacing steel and by 20 to 50% when substituting aluminum, while also addressing sustainability and recycling concerns.
