Abstract
Effective maintenance strategies are essential for ensuring the dependable operation, high availability, and optimal performance of production machinery. Over the decades, research has chronicled the evolution of maintenance practices from traditional reactive approaches to advanced predictive and prescriptive models empowered by modern Industry 4.0 technologies. This review consolidates insights from numerous studies, highlighting how maintenance strategies have progressed, their economic benefits, and operational impacts. Notably, preventive and predictive maintenance approaches have demonstrated significant advantages in reducing downtime and operational costs. However, challenges such as data quality issues and organizational resistance continue to impede their widespread adoption. The paper concludes by emphasizing future directions, especially the development of integrated, data-driven maintenance frameworks that leverage emerging technologies for enhanced decision-making.
